Beaten and left to die in a burning home: New appeal over 2012 murder of James Cahillane

The 58 year old was murdered near the town of Killorglin in 2012.

GARDAÍ ARE APPEALING for information over the unsolved murder of 58-year-old James Cahillane at his home in Kerry in 2012.

On the night of 19 April 2012, Cahillane’s neighbours spotted smoke coming from his home which was just five kilometres outside of Killorglin in Kerry. His body was found inside. A murder investigation was launched after it emerged Cahillane’s had been attacked before his death.

On the night he was killed, Cahillane spent a number of hours in a pub in Killorglin before getting a taxi home.

Gardaí say that he finished working at approximately 5.30 pm, did some grocery shopping and withdrew some cash from an ATM, before heading to the pub.

At about 2.05am, neighbours noticed a fire at his home. Gardaí have said that despite great assistance provided by the public, the crime remains unsolved.

A spokesman said: “On the fifth anniversary of this crime, a further appeal is being made for information. This investigation will be featured in the upcoming edition of Crime Call which will be aired on Monday the 24th April 2017.

“Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to contact them at Killarney Garda Station on 064 6671160 or the Garda Confidential line 1800 666 111.”
